Aetna and United Health recently announced they would reimburse for sleeve gastrectomy, a newer form of obesity surgery that shrinks the stomach. John Meilahn, director of the bariatric surgery program at Temple's School of Medicine, says the policy change is a great move — but it is not a guarantee for coverage. "People who have insurance through companies may have exclusions or riders which prohibit them from having bariatric surgery," he said.
