Charles Library is now open at Temple University.

Temple’s brand new, state-of-the-art Charles Library is now open in the center of campus with entrances at the intersections of 13th Street and Polett Walk and Liacouras Walk and Polett Walk.

We welcome bookworms, students, neighbors and any Philadelphian interested in exploring the vastness of our collections and engaging in meaningful discovery.

Here’s what you need to know.

Open House
Join us for a celebration marking the debut of Charles Library on Sept. 19, 1-5 p.m. Come explore the spaces that will inspire you to discover, create and innovate. You'll have the opportunity to try out virtual reality equipment, enjoy performances by Temple musical groups and poet Yolanda Wisher, CLA '00, and much more.

Visiting
To visit the library during regular operating hours, just show your photo ID at the 13th Street entrance and sign in. If you have your own device or cell phone, we provide free wireless internet.

Using a computer
Need to update your resume? We have computers for that. To access a computer, you can apply for a Community Computer User Card by visiting the Service Desk in the lobby. Just bring a valid government issued photo ID, showing that you are at least 18, and fill out a short application. Staff members are available to help you navigate the library resources and provide technical support.

Borrowing books
Is there a movie you never got around to seeing? To check out books or movies, you can apply for a borrowing card at the Service Desk in the lobby. Just bring a valid Pennsylvania State issued issued photo ID, showing that you are at least 18, and fill out a short application. In addition to allowing you to check out books and movies, the borrowing card gives you access to computers as well.

Learn more about borrowing privileges and renewing your books online. And if you’re wary of that BookBot you may have heard about, don’t be. The One Stop Assistance Desk, located in the atrium, is always ready to help. You can also email a question to asktulibrary@temple.edu.

Attending Events
Charles Library frequently hosts events, exhibits, performances and workshops, which are free and open to the public. Stay up to date with Charles Libraries’ ongoing events. We look forward to seeing you soon!
