Temple police detective describes life as a US veteran
Detective Aaron Allen of the Temple University Police Department is proud to be a United States veteran.
Meet Temple University Police Detective Aaron Allen, who has served in the Army Reserve for 22 years. He started his career as a military police officer and rose to the rank of master sergeant. Some of his deployments include Afghanistan, Honduras and Africa.
“The military teaches you a lot of life skills—things that you may not necessarily get as a regular civilian,” Allen said. “You learn how to cope with stress a lot differently, how to de-escalate problems differently.”
Serving the country is a family affair for Allen. Both of his grandfathers were veterans. His father and brother are veterans.
“So it’s always been something that’s been instilled in me,” he said. “I always enjoyed deploying and helping others. I take pride in it.”
Allen is among more than a dozen members of the Department of Public Safety who are veterans. He looks forward to retiring from the military in June.
