Mum Puppettheatre artistic director Robert Smythe is back on Philadelphia’s theatrical radar. This time around, he's an MFA student at Temple's School of Communications and Theater premiering an adaptation of Ramón del Valle-Inclán's Divine Words. Divine Words is a vicious depiction of humans' beastly tendencies visually and thematically set in the space between a preacher's tent and traveling carnival. The resulting conflict isn't between good and evil, but between which evil gets you through the day without getting you killed.

Japanese automaker Toyota has announced yet another recall. This time it is Tacoma pickup trucks sold in the United Sates. The announcement is the latest in a string of recalls that have hurt the company's image, and prompted concern among many in Japan. Jeff Kingston, who teaches modern Japanese history at Temple University Japan, says the company has lost its way. "I think they've grown complacent, resting on their laurels," he noted. "I think their management system is antiquated. We've seen how slow decision making can be."

With more snow set to fall in Philadelphia, universities are looking ahead while still cleaning up the residue from last week’s storms. Temple University’s senior vice president Tony Wagner emphasizes that weather preparedness doesn’t stop when the snow does. “The preparation for this storm started immediately following the previous storm because we realized we had to keep working on the campus walkways and parking lots to make sure we could handle the additional snow.” Grounds crews at Temple continue to work day and night to keep areas clear.
