Don't confuse Japan's disaster with Hollywood

Is Japan's recent earthquake and resulting tsumani a sign of the apocalypse? Hollywood disaster films such as "Armageddon," "Deep Impact" and "The Day After Tomorrow," which depict end-of-the-world scenarios, have many people believing so. Temple geophysicist Jonathan Nyquist said people should forget about doomsday. Natural disasters like what happened in Japan are not the end-of-the-world events portrayed by Hollywood, but completely normal, he said. Nyquist teaches a GenEd course on the geology and science depicted in Hollywood disaster movies.
