The Japanese comic book form known as manga — the global pop-culture juggernaut infamous for its violence and sexuality — has been under assault lately. In an op-ed column, Roland Kelts of Temple University, Japan Campus, described some of the hits taken by the manga industry this summer, including sales declines, porn scandals and online sharing of scanned titles.

Coffee shops were the retail pioneers of Wi-Fi, flipping the switch to lure customers. But now some owners are finding that Wi-Fi freeloaders who camp out all day nursing a single cup of coffee are a drain on the bottom line. That shift could gather steam now that free Wi-Fi is less of a perk after coffee giant Starbucks stopped charging for it last month. "There is now a market niche for not having Wi-Fi," said Bryant Simon, a Temple history professor and author of Everything but the Coffee: Learning About America From Starbucks.

Temple University students traded books for tools today. Fifty Fox School of Business MBA students spent a day of service in Pleasantville Park in Northeast Philadelphia. They cleaned up the grounds and cleared out an unused building. It was all part of Temple’s “Give a Hoot” program.
