Artist's work uses clay from Marcellus Shale

Her work was recently on display at the Temple Gallery. Temple historian Immerman reflects on Vietnam War

Play sparks creativity and helps kids make sense of their world

"Play is important because it helps to build skills that everyone's looking for in 21st-century learning. As the sex abuse scandal continues to dominate the news and rock Penn State, students have been demonstrating in support of fired coach Joe Paterno. Michael Sachs, chair of Kinesiology and a sports psychologist at Temple, says the unwavering allegiance to athletic officials may be explained by the nature of the allegations. "They are so awful and hard to accept that students may need time absorb the details and to process their feelings on a topic that is rarely discussed," he said.

New Temple website devoted to civil rights struggles in Philadelphia

A new Temple website, Civil Rights in a Northern City: Philadelphia, brings together 1,500 items — newspaper clippings, photographs, TV news coverage, oral histories, correspondence and other materials — to tell the stories of the struggle for civil rights in the city. Brenda Galloway-Wright, associate archivist at the university's Special Collections Research Center, said the website grew out of brainstorming sessions and a $24,000 state grant. "It was a heavily researched topic by our students, faculty, historians, writers and filmmakers," Galloway-Wright said.
