Jewish Exponent

Award-winning Israeli filmmaker Eran Kolirin, director of the acclaimed film "The Band's Visit," has been teaching film classes as a scholar-in-residence at Temple's School of Communications and Theater. Kolirin is participating in the Schusterman Visiting Artist Program, a national residency project for Israeli artists. TV, says Shusterman director Marge Goldwater, "has become an important Israeli export in the past few years, so [Kolirin] brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the prominent film program at Temple."

Will a big lottery win buy happiness?

Media Outlet:

KYW News Radio

The media hype surrounding the $640 million Mega Millions lottery jackpot keeps growing. "It sort of triggers the imagination in many people. 'What would I do if I won?' It's kind of a dream," said Frank Farley, a professor in Temple's College of Education. But he cites recent studies saying you don't have to dream about half a billion dollars for happiness — not even close. "Up to about the range of $70,000, roughly, a year — as you approach that, it's related to happiness. Beyond roughly $70,000 a year income, it doesn't improve your happiness any."

One of only eight MBA programs in the nation highlighted by USN as "on the rise" was the MBA program at Temple's Fox School of Business, which jumped an astonishing 11 spots in the latest rankings — the third highest one-year leap among U.S. MBA programs. The Fox MBA was the only regional program featured on USN's "on the rise" list.

Tyler's "house built on art and ideas"

Philadelphia Inquirer

A student-built hut of wood and Plexiglas has become the semester's most talked-about installation at Temple's Tyler School of Art. The "house," as its creators, senior Elisa Mosley and junior Amy Borch, call it, is the final project for a two-year community arts class. Their assignment: "activate a space." The project intends to help open new avenues of discussion, filling the gaps that traditional education leaves behind, according to Pepon Osorio, the Tyler professor who has been teaching the class for six years.

Blending immigration and Passover

The Greater Philadelphia Jewish Coalition on Immigration is launching a month-long series of programs on immigration.
