City Council to have five new members come November
When the votes are counted Nov. 8, City Council will have at least five new members, the largest influx since 1991, when a fiscal crisis, a federal corruption case and other factors conspired to put seven new people in Council seats. Joseph McLaughlin, director of Temple's Institute for Public Affairs, said the new Council would have to grapple with some of the city's toughest problems, including remaking the broken property-tax system, fixing the underfunded pension plan and addressing budget woes. "They are going to have some tough decisions to make."
