With the recent events in the Gulf of Mexico weighing heavily on everyone’s minds, many beach-goers this weekend wondered — will their favorite Delaware or New Jersey beach suffer from the massive oil spill pouring into the gulf? Michel Boufadel, professor of environmental engineering at Temple, is working with his team and scientists in the gulf to track the size and spread of the spill using computer models. Boufadel said that it is unlikely the oil will reach us: "First, as it moves away from the source, it gets diluted. So, it has to get on the loop, which it could, and then it will get out of the gulf, but it will continue to be diluted. By the time it gets to us, it will be extremely, extremely diluted."
