The commissioner of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles resigned after his arrest in a public indecency sting in Indianapolis. He is accused of taking the same sort of perplexing risk that has long landed public officials at all levels in trouble. "Whoops, here we go again," said Temple psychologist Frank Farley, who has studied risk-taking behavior. Why have so many politicians been caught engaging in behaviors that put their careers at risk? "Politics attracts, I believe, risk-taking people, and sometimes [that quality] will show itself in self-destructive ways," he said. "They're very self-confident people. They generally tend to believe that they control their fate."
