NHL players can’t win lockout on economics, Temple professor says

The NHL lockout started after owners proposed dropping the players’ share of revenue to 49 percent from 57 percent. Aubrey Kent, founder of Temple's Sport Industry Research Center, said players can win on principle. “They’re never going to win on the economics. There’s no chance at all, even if they’re locked out for five years, that suddenly the owners are going to say, ‘You know what ... we’ll give you 57 percent,'" he said.
