Temple economist: Stadium won't do much for downtown Fort Collins, Colo.

A new football stadium for Colorado State University may bring profits to the university. But what will downtown Fort Collins, Colo., the university's home town, gain from a new venue? Not a lot, said Joel Maxcy of Temple's School of Tourism and Hospitality Management. At a presentation, Maxcy discussed the "spillover effects" on the community: congestion, noise and waste likely to come with raucous football fans that may detract would-be shoppers, diners and drinkers from heading downtown on game days.
