Every Wednesday afternoon after school, a group of teenagers gather at Temple's School of Medicine to learn martial arts, play Wii Fit, eat healthy snacks and get weighed. The program is designed to help teens lose weight in a supportive environment, by being paired with a medical student who becomes their mentor. The program was started by Eric Schaff, assistant professor of pediatrics at Temple's School of Medicine. "The medical students have a significant interest in getting involved in patient care, particularly in the first two years, when the curriculum is mostly classroom based," he said.
