Plans to construct offshore wind farms include an agreement to limit noise that may be harmful to marine mammals. At the Jersey Shore, the concern is right whales. “It’s an agreement that will prevent the construction of some of these facilities during the migration season,” said Erik Cordes, professor of biology at Temple. “This will insure it doesn’t interfere with the communications of the whales.”
