A life of pain and resiliency
Throughout her life, Elizabeth Taylor endured pain, whether physical or mental. From injuries sustained through falling off a horse at age 12 to losing her third husband in a plane crash to a longtime addiction to sleeping pills and painkillers, she was always able to overcome. "She had a lot of mental pain," said Temple educational psychologist Frank Farley. "Some people are diminished or destroyed by pain, failure or loss; others rebound. They have the pain like the rest of us have, but they keep rising to the challenges. Life should be fully lived. She's an example of that."
