A new collaboration between the Office of Community Relations’ Pan-African Studies Community Education Program (PASCEP) and the College of Public Health’s Center for Social Policy and Community Development’s Workforce Education Lifelong Learning Program (WELL) will enhance job opportunities for local residents.

 

The new Workforce Connections Hub opened at Temple’s Entertainment and Community Education Center, on Cecil B. Moore Avenue near 15th Street, Jan. 24. The hub will provide a range of services from several partner organizations that offer access to career training, education and other resources. 

 

Temple’s site is the only Pennsylvania CareerLink center in the state located on a university campus. 

 

“This hyperlocal, collaborative approach to adult education and workforce development will provide North Philadelphia residents with an access point to expanded career training and services,” said PASCEP Director Ulicia Lawrence-Oladeinde. “The hub will also allow nearby employers to connect directly to available talent in their community in collaboration with Temple University’s Human Resources department.” 

 

The initiative is being spearheaded by PASCEP and WELL in collaboration with the university’s Office of Non-Credit and Continuing Education, Pennsylvania CareerLink Philadelphia, the City of Philadelphia’s Office of Adult Education, KEYSPOT, the Mayor’s Office of Reintegration Services (RISE) and Graduate! Philadelphia. 

 

Weekly workshops, individual counseling and classes presented by PASCEP, WELL and partner organizations will include access to computer literacy and online educational services, secondary and postsecondary education and job readiness workshops, as well as college preparation and career counseling. 

 

Pennsylvania CareerLink centers serve as the state’s workforce development system. The centers provide one-stop shopping for employers and jobseekers by integrating comprehensive career placement and online job search services.
