RADical self-defense program empowers potential victims

In an age when one out of three women can expect to be sexually assaulted in their lifetime, many women feel the need to improve their ability to protect themselves against physical aggression.

To address that need, Temple offers the R.A.D. (Rape Aggression Defense) Systems program. The objective of the program, which is offered in various gyms and universities across the U.S., is “to develop and enhance the options of self defense, so they may become viable considerations to the woman who is attacked.”

Donna Gray, special services coordinator for Campus Safety Services, teaches the Temple version of the two-credit course, "Personal Defense for Women." The course is offered under Temple's Department of Kinesiology. Upon completion, participants receive a R.A.D. Systems certification.
