IBC group fitness instructor kicks off new semester

Video Production: Gina Benigno

Students line up early to attend Ron Dukes' Kardio Kick classes, which are usually filled to capacity. A three-time national karate champion, Dukes is on a personal mission to promote an active lifestyle. As a teenager, he lost his right lung after being diagnosed with Lemierre's Syndrome, a very rare lung infection. He decided then that he would dedicate his life to inspiring others. This semester Dukes celebrates 14 years of service as a group fitness instructor at the Independent Blue Cross Student Recreation Center, where he offers motivation and expert advice on physical fitness. The IBC offers 56 classes per week, with more than 17,000 participants a semester. View Campus Recreation's complete group fitness schedule.
