Financial Literacy Month events promote financial health

April is National Financial Literacy Month, which was established to promote financial wellness across the country. Throughout April, various financial-support associations at Temple will host events in Alter Hall and the Howard Gittis Student Center to help students and staff achieve financial wellness. The following events are open to students, faculty, staff and alumni.

Managing Student Debt
Hosted by the Temple University Investment Association
April 9, 12:00–12:50 p.m., Alter Hall, room 233

Michael Clancy, CST ’79, director of financial planning in the Drexel University College of Medicine and a Temple alumnus, will lead a discussion that focuses on managing student debt, and income and expenses after graduation.

Future in Finance 2014

Student Loan Repayment
Hosted by the University Financial Literacy Taskforce
April 16, 12:00–2:00 p.m., Howard Gittis Student Center, room 200B

This session is aimed at graduating students specifically and will detail different types of repayment plans, deferments, and public-service and cancellation options for student federal loans. Repayment of those loans begin six months after students leave school.

Credit for Life Workshop
April 23, 12:00–2:00 p.m., Howard Gittis Student Center, room 200B

Join Jill Dempsey, a certified credit counselor, as she explains credit reports and their significant elements. She also will explain how to repair a damaged credit report. This workshop is open to all audiences.
