JoAnne Epps, dean of the Beasley School of Law, was appointed chair of a police oversight board on Wednesday, March 25. Epps will be tasked with ensuring that the Philadelphia Police Department implements specific policies regarding the use of force, policies which have resulted from recommendations of a Justice Department report finding that police too often use lethal force. Epps achieved her success with a bit of luck mixed with preparation and opportunity. Read about Epps' new role and what contributed to her success, as noted in this Philadelphia Inquirer story.
