7 things to do before the semester ends

Looking for outings, holiday activities or an entertainment fix before the semester ends? We’ve got you covered.

a calendar with records, ramen noodles and ice skates

Did this semester fly by for anyone else? It's hard to believe we're less than a week away from fall break. From being back in person for the first time to unveiling a new Bagel Hut, it's been a semester of many new beginnings and we've accomplished a lot!

But if you've found yourself at this point realizing you spent the whole time trying to relearn the dynamics of in-person classes (I will miss you forever, mute button), figuring out what to wear every day now that you're actually around people again and finding new study zones on campus, worry not! There's still time for activities and we've got the rundown of all the things to do on campus and out in the city before the semester is over.

Catch Temple’s last shows of the semester
We deep dove into the arts and entertainment happening at Temple before the end of the year and we've got some good stuff for you. Temple Theaters is doing their final show of the semester, Hotel Williams, a collection of six plays by iconic playwright Tennessee Williams. If you're looking for something a little (well, a lot) more comedic, TUTV's student-run sketch comedy show Temple SMASH is doing their second episode of the season! Come see a series of student-written, directed, produced, and performed comedy sketches. It's the funniest night of the year and you don't want to miss out!
Hotel Williams runs Nov. 12, 13, 16, 17 and 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Tomlinson Theater (1301 W. Norris St.)
Follow @templesmash on Instagram for updates on date, time and location for Temple SMASH episode 1302.

Movie night at The Reel
DYK? Temple has its own movie theater, The Reel, and it's just about the most affordable theater experience out there (only $2 with your OWLcard!) If you're looking for a thrill to close out the semester, catch Jurassic Park Dec. 2-5!
Dec. 2, 7 p.m.; Dec. 3 and 4, 6 p.m.; Dec. 5, 4 p.m., The Reel at the Howard Gittis Student Center

Have the Friendsgiving you’ve been waiting for
So Friendsgiving 2020 was more of a Roommatesgiving if it was anything at all, but this year the tradition returns! If you've never had a Friendsgiving before, we highly recommend! Whether you're on or off campus, Friendsgiving is a great way to be festive and celebrate with friends before going home for the real thing. Our tips: Spice up your Friendsgiving with a theme to inspire your cuisine, challenge yourself with some microwave-inspired dishes if you're dorming and make a fun (possibly fall-themed?) playlist!

Relaaaaaaax over fall break
It's been a crazy semester full of adjusting, readjusting, classrooming (with maybe a little Zooming) and if there's any semester that you deserve a break, it's this one. It's time to recharge and catch back up on the z's before going full finals mode when we come back. Take this time to catch up on that growing list of TV shows you've been meaning to watch, spend time with friends and family, and maybe reconnect with some hobbies you haven't had time for!

Check out the holiday events at Dilworth Park
Venture off campus and down to Center City for lots of lights and winter fun! With easy access on SEPTA, City Hall is the place to be during the holiday season. We highly recommend ice skatingtickets are only $7 for a 90-minute skate sesh. If skating isn't really your thing, check out the Deck the Hall Light Show, where Technicolor projections animated to sound effects play continuously on the western façade of City Hall every night starting Nov. 22!
Dilworth Park, 1 S. 15th St.

The iconic Macy’s lights show
If you find yourself in Center City looking for holiday activities, stop by Macy's for their annual holiday lights show in their grand court! The show features over 100,000 LED lights and attracts over 175,000 visitors each year. After being virtual last year, it's back for the in-person experience, so be sure to check it out!
Macy’s grand court, 1300 Market St., Dec. 1–24, 10:30 a.m.

Game day!
Thanksgiving and football go hand in hand, and whether you're a dedicated fan or you've just been meaning to catch a game (and you happen to be around campus the weekend after Thanksgiving), watch the Owls take on Navy in Temple's last football game of the season on Nov. 27!
Lincoln Financial Field, One Lincoln Financial Field Way, Saturday Nov. 27. Check the athletics website for the latest updates.
