The reorganization brings together Boyer College of Music and Dance and the newly named School of Theater, Film and Media Arts to creates the Center for the Performing and Cinematic Arts and positions the Tyler School of Art as an independent school.
During Vice President for Computer Services and Chief Information Officer Tim O'Rourke's thirty plus years at Temple, he led the creation and design of the TECH Center, expanded wireless access across the university, and much more. Barbara Dolhansky, associate VP of computer services, will serve as interim VP for computer services and CIO effective today. A national search for a permanent VP/CIO is set for the 2015-2016 academic year.
President Theobald has appointed William Stull, who served as chair of economics at Temple for 18 years, as interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts. He will be assisted by Richard Deeg, chair of political science, who has been appointed senior associate dean for operations. Rebecca Alpert will continue as associate dean for academic affairs.
Teresa S. Soufas, dean of the College of Liberal Arts, has resigned effective immediately due to health reasons. Following a sabbatical, Soufas, an expert in Spanish literature, will return to faculty life at Temple to teach, complete a book and launch a research center for global studies.
Provost Hai-Lung Dai has launched an initiative to ensure that adjunct faculty have the tools and resources to support them as educators at Temple. The initial goals include strengthening adjunct instructors’ connections to the scholarly community and increasing access to teaching and evaluation resources, including those tools that will enhance academic outcomes.
This winter's stormy weather has played havoc with the spring semester's academic schedule. To ensure that Temple instructors have sufficient time to cover course content, the Office of the Provost has contacted faculty to offer alternatives for replacing missed class time. The good news: That can be accomplished without adjusting the official spring 2014 academic calendar.
Provost Hai-Lung Dai has announced faculty merit awards for 2013 recognizing outstanding performance in teaching and instruction, research, scholarship and creative activity and/or in university service, or service to the profession or discipline. A record number of merit awards totaling 2,056 units of $600 each will be distributed to almost 700 individual faculty members.

Each finalist will present a scholarly talk open to the university community and participate in sessions for staff, faculty and students within each respective school/college. Temple's Banner Student Competency Center has announced improvements to the registration and billing process that will debut with the beginning of summer session registration. The changes — including registration waitlisting, the end of registration cancellation (known as "washout") and the introduction of a financial responsibility agreement — will benefit students and school/college administrators alike.

Temple President Richard Englert and Interim Provost Hai-Lung Dai are now accepting nominations for annual faculty awards honoring the university’s finest teachers, researchers, creative artists and clinicians.
Starting Sept. 1, the Office of Institutional Research, including the Measurement and Research Center, will be relocated to Academic Affairs and Assessments. As part of this transition, Academic Affairs will be renamed Academic Programs, Assessment and Institutional Research.
