An update on the search for Temple’s next president

Dear members of the Temple community,

As the semester winds down, I would like to share an update about the search for Temple’s next president. This fall, we gathered invaluable input from more than 300 stakeholders during our community engagement sessions. With the help of our leadership advisory firm Spencer Stuart and research and strategy firm The Collective Genius, we have drawn from these findings to create a presidential profile, including the position specification, which is now posted on the Presidential Search website.

The position specification directly reflects the findings from the engagement sessions in which many of you shared the qualities and experience you want our next president to possess.

  • An engaged, inclusive leadership style
  • A proven approach to both decision-making and community-building
  • An ambitious vision for growing the university and bolstering its excellence

This marks an important milestone in our search as we imagine the kind of leader Temple is seeking. As we all know, this job calls for an exceptional individual, one who embraces the opportunity to helm a major university in a leading U.S. city, who understands exactly what sets Temple apart, and who can drive our great institution forward.

Spencer Stuart is now developing the candidate pool. We fully expect to have an excellent group of prospective applicants to choose from, with an array of experience and accomplishments that have prepared them for leadership at an urban, public university. We expect this stage of the search to culminate with a recommendation to the Board of Trustees in the spring of 2024.

I want to thank you again for your dedication to Temple, and for being part of this important process. We invite you to take a look at the job description, and you can continue to find search updates at president.temple.edu/search

Sincerely,

Mitchell L. Morgan
Chair of the Board of Trustees
