Expanded policy addresses sexual assault, domestic and dating violence, and stalking

Temple has expanded its definitions of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking in accordance with new requirements set forth in the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act. The act asks colleges and universities to expand on and inform their communities about educational programs and resources on the prevention of sexual assault and violence. The intent of the act is to give victims one place to go for resources and assistance.

Social media assists in new licensing agreement for a Temple technology

The use of the social media platform LinkedIn has led to the licensing of a Temple-created technology for the cleaning of water used in hydro-fracking for natural gas extraction. Hydro Enviro Clean LLC, a Texas-based startup company, licensed the technology developed by Temple chemistry professor Daniel Strongin less than two years after its chief executive officer read a story posted on LinkedIn by Temple’s Office of the Senior Vice Provost for Research.

Children learn best during real-time interaction, new study finds

University wellness program rewards employees’ healthy steps

Temple’s new voluntary wellness program, Total Wellness, provides incentives to benefits-eligible university employees who invest in the maintenance and improvement of their own health and well-being. The program offers individualized health assessments, counseling and other resources and support to help participants reach certain wellness milestones. By participating in team challenges, wellness seminars and health sessions, employees can earn points toward rewards of $50 gift cards — up to a $200 annual maximum.

Research proves grazing sheep are efficient at controlling vegetation

Temple University’s Center for Sustainable Communities (CSC) has partnered with Upper Dublin Township and Upper Dublin School District in a pilot program that uses Katahdin sheep for plant removal. CSC spent the summer testing the sheep to determine their viability as an alternative for vegetative management and storm water control. The study is the first of its kind in determining the impact on water quality in storm water basins.

Evan came to Temple as a prospective history major who had never attended a Division I football game.
