The Illinois lottery hopes to capitalize on the lure of nine-figure jackpots by adding Powerball, another multistate game that boasts a larger minimum jackpot than Mega Millions. Frank Farley, a psychologist and professor at Temple University, believes that many players will see the second game as a means of "diversifying," similar to a casino gambler who plays two slot machines at once.
