Philadelphia offers some small, lesser known museums that are fascinating.

The Shoe Museum at Temple’s School of Podiatric Medicine features fabulous shoes: everything from Egyptian burial sandals to Mike Schmidt's Nikes to Joan Rivers' Manolo Blahniks. Curator Barbara Williams offers interesting insight into both the world of shoes and museum collecting.
