Is there a doctor in the house? There will be whenever R&B luminary Patti LaBelle is onstage after May 13, when Temple University will present her with an honorary doctorate. Just don't ask LaBelle to prescribe anything other than good music, since her doctorate will be in humane letters. She can add the Temple honor to her two Grammy Awards. She has also written four books, including two cookbooks.

An Inquirer photographer documents the last minute touches being made to the Baptist Temple which celebrates its grand opening today after being vacant for 30 years. The 36,000 square foot building was built in 1891 as a site for worship. Temple will run the building as a center for arts, events and cultural performances.

Constantine Pavlides taught entrepreneurship at Temple University’s Fox School of
Business, so it’s fitting that some of his students are using entrepreneurship to
honor his memory. The students are trying to raise money for a scholarship to
memorialize Pavlides, who died in a car accident last November, by holding a silent
auction of most of Pavlides’ owl figurines in the Alter Hall lobby on April 21.
Students have posted pictures of the owls on the Facebook page of Owl Keepsake
Auctions.
