Head Start workers report poor health, Temple study finds

Temple University researchers found that women working in Head Start, the nation’s largest federally funded early childhood education program, report higher than expected levels of physical and mental health problems. Their findings are reported in the first-ever survey conducted on the health of the program’s staff. The research was done by Temple’s Department of Public Health in collaboration with the Institute for Survey Research.

College of Science and Technology, Sbarro co-host D.C. conference
The College of Science and Technology joined the Sbarro Health Research Organization, the National Italian American Foundation and the Giovan Giacomo Giordano Foundation in co-hosting “Current Advances in Medicine, Surgery and Biotechnology.” The one-day conference was held Oct. 25 in Washington, D.C. Speakers included Antonio Giordano, director of Sbarro Institute for Cancer Research and Molecular Medicine and Center for Biotechnology at Temple; Cataldo Doria, director of the division of transplantation at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital; and Pasquale De Blasio, president of ISENET - USA LLC. Doria also was presented with the Giovan Giacomo Giordano NIAF Award for Ethics and Creativity in Medical Research.

TU Advisory: Assault and robbery against a faculty member in Anderson

Temple University Police are investigating an assault and robbery against a faculty member that took place about 11:55 a.m. on Tuesday 10/29 in Anderson Hall. The suspect is described as an African American male, 6 feet tall, wearing tan pants and a tan shirt. Anyone with information should contact Campus Police at ext. 1-1234.

STHM 15th anniversary event cooks up $100K for scholarships

Temple’s School of Tourism and Hospitality Management celebrated its 15th anniversary with an aptly-named event: Fifteen. The event, which raised over $100,000 in scholarship funds to support current and future students, featured 15 of the Philadelphia region’s finest chefs who prepared 15 meals for 15 tables with 15 guests. Participating chefs included Jasper Alivia of Cuba Libre, Anthony Goodwin of Parc, Jean-Marie Lacroix of Brulee Catering and Daniel Stern of R2L.
